Those of you who follow me on Facebook know that my latest venture into KeepingDebbieBusy has been to join the local volunteer fire department as their resident web & photography geek. This afternoon, after a month of pulling info together (and some browbeating of people who still haven't sent me their bios...), I took the new site live!
Then, after a couple of weeks with no pager action, we had two back-to-back runs this evening and I actually got to put shiny new content on our baby website. :-) First a vehicle fire (where I felt really bad for the owner, who was just starting the process of rebuilding it when it caught fire... Thankfully, it's an old, solid, mostly metal car and the fire was pretty much contained to the engine compartment where he was going to be replacing everything anyway) and then an "unknown fire" which turned out to just be a really big (and quite pretty) bonfire called in by a worried passerby.
So that's what up in my world. What's up with you?

Date: 2011-06-04 02:27 pm (UTC)Out of curiosity....
1) Do the owners of the burned property have to OK the use of photos of their property? I could see the possibility of hurt feelings, embarrassment and weirdness from having a relatively small fire widely publicized.
2) Is there a specific reason to use ...is it courier? for the contact info? It's a font that's notoriously hard to read on a screen rather than on paper. (Other fun fact: it is more difficult for the human eye to read all caps if there are more than seven words.) Same font is used for the roster and all run stats.

Date: 2011-06-04 08:08 pm (UTC)As for the tabular text... If there's a good way to set tabs and have them render correctly in WordPress, I haven't found it, so I'm just using monospaced text there. I could feed it a list and have it use Andale Mono if your computer has it, but any computer that doesn't is probably going to default to Courier. It's not optimal, but having the text line up correctly was important for those pages (especially the roster and the run stats). Now that the site is live, finding ways to clean up stuff like that is next on my list. :-)
