Project Far Light achieves launch velocity...

30 years in the writing... almost two years of recording and three months of mixing... five musicians, at least three times as many instruments (we should count them all, at some point)... and Dream of a Far Light is done. The files for the printed materials went to Groovehouse today, and Rick, our amazing engineer, is burning the red book master disk right now, after putting the final touches on it this evening, so it'll go off to Groovehouse tomorrow.

We were talking tonight about everything that went into this project, and were being amazed at the consistency of the sound, given that it was recorded in two studios and a basement. :-) The fiddle tracks sound fabulous, and we couldn't have done it without you and Gretchen opening your home and your studio to us!

I can't wait to see your new arrival, too! Will she be at Marcon?

Glad to be of service! One of the tricks in merging tracks together is to record them in reasonably neutral spaces, which seems to have worked. :)

Gretchen, Katie, and Julie are staying home from Marcon, as we didn't want to try taking a less than one month old baby to a convention far from home. But they'll all be at Duckon a few weeks later -- because if things aren't working out for some reason, they can all go home!

I'm going to try to make Duckon, but a lot depends on what's going on with the house search. Since that's potentially the weekend before I close on selling this one, I may have to be here finding/securing somewhere to move to or packing for the move!

Heh... he probably does, but I don't think he played all of 'em. Amy and I were at a 1-1 ratio (fiddle for her, keyboard for me), Jen was 3-1 (harp, regular bass, and I think she used Barry's "Pablo" acoustic bass on one track), Sally had drum kit, djembe, wing, chimes, bodhran, spoke (another chimey thing) and probably more that I'm forgetting, and Barry had banjo, baritone guitar, and a quantity that I'm not sure about of regular acoustic and electric guitars. Barry probably has an accurate count 'cause I think he listed everything in the project book while we were recording.
