Kaos, dog-friend of my sister [livejournal.com profile] nycgadgetgirl and niece T, made it out of Miami Dade Animal Services this weekend, over to a local vet for a brief stay, then on to her temporary foster home in Orlando. This all came together when [livejournal.com profile] ambersaigh over at [livejournal.com profile] driveforlife put [livejournal.com profile] nycgadgetgirl in contact with the good folks over at OTRA, who helped provide the on-sight folks in Miami and between Miami and Orlando to get the transports put together.

Kaos in foster careAccording to her transporters and her foster mom, she's a real sweetheart, and is settling right in to the joy which is Living Indoors. So now she needs a permanent place to hang her leash. One of Kaos' benefactors has volunteered to pay the cost of shipping her from Orlando to a permanent home, so transport shouldn't be a problem (other than waiting for the weather to accommodate canine air travel). She's got an upper respiratory infection right now, but has been back to the vet for antibiotics (and she's current on all shots, and spayed) and just looking for somebody to love.

Can you give Kaos a home?

I'm just so damn happy she was saved! She's so beautiful and I wish we had room b/c Blade and Cookie would have a new sister. I hope she finds the perfect, loving home!

She's such a pretty girl. Hmm....I may have someone for her in NW Indiana. (I suspect they're going to be wanting/ needing another dog shortly.) Does anyone know how she does with kids?

Kids - 2 boys, ages 7 and 9. The 9 year old has Asperger's, so their mom will want a protective dog. Not an attack dog, just one that will warn off strangers if the boys are playing outside. They have something like 14 or 15 acres - their mom loves horses, and wanted to keep some, but the older child is deathly afraid of them.

They have a German Shepherd now, but he's rising 13 and has developed severe hip problems, so that Carol is talking about not letting him be frustrated and in pain past a certain point.

And no trouble seeing Kaos if she landed there - I'm talking about my son's best friend's family! Gee, I might even see you myself....:)

This is the latest update from foster mom, Jeanette via email this morning:
---------
She is doing great! Her cough is getting a little better, she did not cough much last night but when she gets excited I notice she coughs more.

As far as adjusting... WOW what an awesome dog! Housebroken for sure. When she needs to go out you know it , she jumps on you and looks for the leash. She has not had an accident yet.

Truly a friendly affectionate loving dog. Someone will be very happy when they adopt her. Also she is not a chronic barker either. She is protective too, I made believe I was getting hurt in another room and she came flying in to see what was happening. Terrific dog I swear!

You know, I'm glad there's help for Kaos - but I keep wondering what happened to Benedict.

Still working on that one. No idea yet. I have a very bad feeling about it though, because he was devoted to Kaos. It is not like him at all to leave her behind.

I've thought about this a lot too. I'm sure that Benedict - if he's alive (fingers crossed) - is devastated that he's lost his girl. He was really committed to her. If Miami Dade hadn't followed up on her rabies tag, she'd be dead by now. I'm sure Benedict will be happy to learn that she is alive and well in an adoptive home, even though that means he can't have her back.

If all other options are exhausted and you really need a place for her, let me know. My brother is in the Orlando area but I'm not sure what his current dog situation is like. Does Kaos need to be an only dog?

Sherri - We haven't tested her with other dogs yet. I'm waiting for her URI to get better and then we'll see. When she still lived in NYC, she LOVED my dog Snickers. With all the other great reports I've received on her so far, I'm guessing she's still dog friendly too.

Kaos is a very friendly dog and has met up with a few dogs in my neighborhood and they did alot of sniffing. She is playful and I am sure would do fine with other dogs. I will let y'all know when I have her around them more. She just wants to be LOVED and PLAY! I have ceramic floors and we throw her bone and she slides across the room after the bone, it is so funny. Terrific dog just wish I could keep her but it is out of the question, sorry Kaos! I did promise I would fine a GOOD home for her!
