upside-down dog...

There's an upside-down dog in my bed.

Far from being the miserable immobile dog of last night, Chase is now intent on finding The Perfect Position for sleeping. So far, we've had sprawled, curled up, and now upside-down.

This will probably make me crazy once I'm ready to sleep and he's still experimenting, but somehow I don't think I'll mind.

Yay for mobile dogs!

By this morning it was obvious that his Deramaxx (which is a once-a-day) had worn off. He reeeeeeally didn't want to stand up and walk, but he did when I insisted. I got him outside for a few minutes then got his meds in him and let him lie back down. I'm going to run home at lunch and check on him and fully expect to see him feeling much better again by then.

Poor old guy... I feel bad, 'cause he's so stoic that he's probably been in pain for quite some time and it had to get this bad before he let me know.

I'm *convinced* that dogs don't have bones the same way that people do. The bend into such weird positions. (My dog liked to sleep partially upside down, sprawled over the end of the couch. Which never looked comfortable to me, but I guess I'm not a dog. (Of course, in part that was probably because it allowed him to keep an ear on the refrigerator...)

As a breed, Tollers tend to sleep in what a friend of mine dubbed the "Dead Fishhook" position. On their backs... hips so relaxed that the back legs are laid out flat, and head curved around into a "J" so that the snout is almost parallel to the spine.

I'm never quite sure how/why the can bend the way they do... you're theory is as good as any! :-)
