So here I am, at 1:30 a.m., realizing that I'm sooooo not ready to leave for Columbus in the morning.

Clothes are washed, at least, but they're still in the dryer. I have no idea if I'll actually bring anything that goes together (though I can't go far wrong w/ blue jeans), but I at least won't have to spend the entire weekend in a swimsuit, which is currently the only thing in my suitcase.

CDs are packed (by the simple expedient of having left two boxes in the truck after I picked them up). Promo flyers are designed and printed.

Random bits of sound gear need to be found and packed. The bulk of that is done, along w/ djembe, keyboard and keyboard stand. Guitar needs to be packed, and I should find my tuner.

The house is a wreck, but the cats are staying home alone and the dogs are staying with the sitter, so at least I don't have to clean for the sitter. :-)

I have a vague idea of what I'm doing in my hall set tomorrow afternoon at 3. Haven't practiced enough guitar lately, so I may not be playing much guitar in the filk room after I abuse my fingers tomorrow afternoon.

As much of the house paperwork as I can do before leaving is done. Earnest money check and signed papers delivered, insurance agent contacted for an insurance commitment, availability given to agent so she can schedule the inspection. Packrats has been contacted, I have a quote, and (unlike PODS) they do deliver to Frankton.

In the morning I need to pick up more power steering fluid, air up all the tires, check the oil and spend a small fortune on gas.

I think I'll go to bed, so that I can continue this insanity in the morning!

Yesterday was my day trip to Marcon, and I had such a good time that I spent most of today talking myself out of going back for a second evening tonight. Realistically, though, I need to stay home, get more stuff done, and not put my poor truck through another six-hour round-trip to Columbus and back (it was making some really weird noises on the way home last night... which you just really don't want to hear at 3 a.m. on the interstate!).

My day at the con... with set list! )

As it's now 6:40 and it would take me three hours to get back to Columbus, I think I've safely passed the danger point wherein my social self would be able to drag my rational self into the car and onto the road. *sigh* I really wanted more time to visit... but alas, I must Do Stuff so that I'm all prepped for Conterpoint, and that doesn't leave me with a lot of time for flitting off to filks between now and then. I didn't get to spend nearly as much time just visiting with folks as I would have liked, but I'm glad that I got the time that I did! (Thanks, Trace, for inviting me to concertize, 'cause that gave me the "excuse" to leave behind all the Stuff needing to be done and escape to Marcon for the day!)

Next up for me... Conterpoint! (Well, okay, maybe a day trip to Duckon, but that's not a sure thing yet.) Conterpoint in June, Archon/NASFIC in August, and Conclave and OVFF in October. Whee!
This evening, I discovered a frightening truth... fingers used to playing one or two songs at a time and then taking a break? Well, those fingers are not prepared to play for an entire 40-minute set.

Why is this an issue, you ask?

Well, that would be because I've been offered a 40-minute set at Marcon on Friday night, in addition to the 30-minute hall set that I'd already planned to play in the afternoon. This would be me... just me... without, well, the band.

Eep!

So I've been practicing... a lot. And my fingers are complaining... also a lot.

I've sprinkled the set liberally with a cappella numbers, which will either help (by giving me a break) or make things worse (by making me realize just how ouchy my fingertips are when starting to play again after those breaks).

This week will be an exercise in practicing enough to feel reasonably ready for both sets, while not totally killing the fingers.

Somebody remind me why I thought guitar would be <ahem> "easier" than piano?

Who's gonna be at Marcon? I'm only there for Friday, so I'll be in the hall outside reg from 4-4:30 p.m., in the Filk Room (Union E) from 9:05-9:45 p.m. (in between Judi Miller's concert and the theme filk hosted by Three Weird Sisters), and just generally checking out other concerts and the filking for the rest of the night before heading back to Indy in the wee hours.
