While my weekend didn't exactly go the way I'd expected (see previous rant about being stranded in Ohio), I do still have things to be thankful for this Thanksgiving season...
I'm thankful for what
fuzzyvanman dubbed the "fannish support network" which resulted in him and Em rescuing me from the Super 8 in Zanesville on Thursday, taking me to Thanksgiving dinner w/ Em's family, then offering me the spare room at her house for the next couple of nights 'til the car was driveable again. All of this got arranged via LJ and email between 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning... I was exceedingly lucky to find myself stranded within driving distance of friends who were willing to take in a stray for the weekend. It was great to spend time with them and with
rms_butterfly... we need to do that again some time, but with actual planning. :-)
I'm thankful for friends who were willing to hang out in chat and keep me sane...
bynkii for cheering me up in the middle of the night (when I thought I was still going to be stranded in the Super 8 for Thanksgiving) and Chuck for giving me tons of TDI advice so I wasn't totally lost when talking to the mechanic. (Of course, the mechanic ended up not listening to a word of what I'd said, but that's a completely different issue.)
I'm thankful my job and for being in the position to cope with an unexpected almost-$700 car repair. It's going to cut into my recreational spending for awhile, but it's not the financial tragedy that it would have been even a couple of years ago.
I'm thankful for my sister
nycgadgetgirl who stayed sympathetic throughout, even as my changes in plans meant that she ended up spending Thanksgiving alone, since my plans changed too late for her to rearrange _her_ plans. (Sorry, sis!)
I'm thankful for cats who are used to me cheating on them with strange cats, and who aren't holding it against me that I spent two days snuggling four strange kitties. Four of my six are currently curled up on the sofa, purring and napping. GarionTheBashful is behind me on a shelf, and Bigfoot is in his normal spot in the entertainment center after having a good snuggle when I first got home, and nobody seems to be holding a grudge over my coming home smelling of strange kitties.
And lastly, I'm thankful for being home with a day left to decompress before I have to go back to work on Monday. After everything that's happened, I'm going to enjoy collapsing in my own bed for the night.
